Live Blog: US v AUS World Cup game
Game setting: US and AUS both won their first game, winner here is through to knockout round.
Viewing setting: I am watching from Chillnfill, where a bartender graciously provided a spare table and chair for me. I walked here in a dry 76 and immediately drank some water and ordered a nitro dry stout. The place is very near to standing room only but quiet as we are doing the anthems. Both sound like imperialistic garbage ¯\_(‘ –‘)_/¯

TIME – KICKOFF
- I hear a “here we go” from a nearby table. We are here, but are we ready?
- Less than a min In and AUS had a credible chance, uh-oh.
- US is getting settled, tables are still filling up. I wish the bartender would turn up the volume.
- People are carrying around pitchers, you love to see it. Others are looking around for a seat, hate to be in that situation. I wonder if someone will ask about the open seat next to me.
TIME – 5 MIN
- We hear the first groan from the crowd as the US has a chance but blows it.
- The US has had chances and this place seems ready to blow once one goes in. My brother is at the game and thinks they’ll register on the quake scale, I don’t doubt they might.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
- The US made it look easy, driving down the sideline, cutting in and firing it across the middle. This time it was an own goal, need to remember to make that goalscorer bet for next game.
- Need to focus on the game, AUS almost tied it with a nifty outside-the-foot shot.
- These two teams seem like similar architypes but the US is a little bigger, faster, stronger (bfs).
- The game is starting to get chippy. AUS is frustrated and the US is flopping. Bad looks all around.
- RFK jr is shown and boo’s reign from the crowd, me included. I love this city.
TIME – 20 MIN
- The US has been in control (see bfs) but has not been able to capitalize on any chances. Just got to keep at it and one or two more are bound to go in.
- EEEKKK!!!! Chance for AUS but our goalie is NICE. Here comes a corner. It bounces around the box and out for another corner.
HYDRATION BREAK – UGH
- Someone asked to sit at my table so I may slow down on the note taking. They seem like good people, they remind me of Sarinah and me.
- The game seems to have lulled but just as I say that the US earns a corner. Time to use that size and strength.
- More children are showing up and but luckily the couple who sat down at my table are childless at the moment
- FOUL at the top the box for the US. Can they recapture some of the set piece magi- nope.
- People at the table, myself included wonder why the guys are wearing a bra-like garment. Thank you Reddit.
- Heard my first wet cough from a kid, please no more.
TIME – 37 MIN
- US has been knocking at the door but no one is answering… is that how that saying should be used?
- There was an injury but the broadcast has not shown a replay, tough to tell how serious it is with the volume so low.
- A US player just got mugged and everyone is rightfully asking what took so long for the ref to call it. Another free kick chance for the US.
- WAIT, what?!?
- Oh, yea, that is the definition of offside.
- But the one guy who was on, scored so…
TIME – 45 MIN

- The player who scored was in an onside position, goal allowed, touchdown on my bets baby!!!
- I am starting to get hungry and if Picone’s is still open, that is where I will be getting lunch.
- US has a chance in the 51st min of the first half and the crowd would have gone wild.
HALFTIME
- Picone’s was open, but it will take 25 min for it to be made. Makes me think of this quote.
- Confirmed it is standing room only in this place. It is going to be a long, hot walk home, so I better live it up while I am out.
2ND HALF KICKOFF
- The US is still in control. I hope this doesn’t turn into a sad lifeless game and the US pushes to get a solid goal differential.
- Turned to my left and there is someone without a seat, pouring their pitcher into a friend’s cup. These are my people.
TIME – 51 MIN
- Breakaway for the US but the forward got caught between fighting off the defender and shooting. We waste another corner. They clear, we regroup and win another corner.
It was at this time that my order from Picone’s was ready so I put the laptop away as the sandwich can get messy. The rest of the game was relatively uneventful as the US was content to sit on the lead to take a commanding lead in their group.
